Ethics & Professionalism
Correctional officers deal with inmates regularly and must have the highest ethics and exhibit professionalism in every scenario. In this course students are introduced to a general Code of Ethics. Officers are taught to be honest and not to lie or cheat no matter what situation they face. Topics also include team camaraderie, cultural diversity of the workforce and inmate population, and communication with fellow officers and inmates. Officers will also learn professional behavior. Emphasis is placed on exemplary dress, grooming and uniform maintenance as well as a positive attitude and active participation in learning activities. Officers absorb the professional standards of the department through instruction and role modeling.
